Hummingbird House, Queensland's only children's hospice, operates as a medically supported 'home away from home' for children affected by a life limiting condition, and their families.  The stand-alone purpose built facility offers 8 guest in care beds, 5 family accommodation suites and a unique 'end of life' suite.  Underpinned by the notion of creating a  'warm embrace' for children and their families, the multidisciplinary team provides 24/7hr scheduled and emergency specialist care short break stays;  pain and symptom management; care at the end of life; and psychosocial support programs for the whole family.  With strong connections locally, nationally and internationally with specialist paediatric palliative care services, Hummingbird House is an integrated community based service delivering flexible child and family centred care.  Hummingbird House is operated by Wesley Mission Queensland.


This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Endorsed Enrolled Nurse to join a focused and motivated team in making a key contribution to the development of a unique service for Queensland families. The successful applicant will embrace the philosophy of Hummingbird House and will work closely with nurses and personal care workers. The EEN will provide hands on care to Guests within Hummingbird House and in a community setting. Hummingbird House aspires to be a world class children's and adolescents hospice. Our ability to deliver on this promise has been greatly enhanced by the ongoing support of leading children's palliative care providers both in Australia and Internationally.

Role Accountabilities:

1.      Align one's workplace behaviour in accordance with the WMQ Model of Care, the Wesley Charter and Wesley Mission Queensland's Vision, Mission and Values.

2.      To assist in the delivery of nursing care to children within the Hospice and in the child's own home .

3.      To observe, monitor, interpret, document and report signs, symptoms and changes in the child's status.

4.      To administer  medications under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

5.      To contribute to the formulation and implementation of care plans.

6.      To assist in the orientation of new staff.

7.      To undertake procedures within the scope of knowledge and ability.

8.      To support and as appropriate direct other members of the nursing and Allied Health team.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Requirements:

Essential:

1.      Current Enrolled Nurse Certificate with the Queensland Nursing Council with endorsement for Medication.

2.      Ability to provide high level nursing care within the Endorsed “Enrolled Nurse Scope of Practice”.
