headspace Hervey Bay provides free to low cost health services for young people 12-25 years old.  With the help of its dedicated youth friendly staff of Psychologists, Counsellors and Intake & Access workers, headspace Hervey Bay has become a popular one-stop-shop for young people seeking help or advice and their physical and mental health concerns. At headspace Hervey Bay, the following 4 core streams are provided to assist young people: general health, mental health, alcohol and drug, and employment/vocation services.

 

We are looking for:

We have a position available at headspace Hervey Bay, for a passionate, experienced and Youth-Friendly Specialist Psychiatrist, to work with young people, aged 12 to 25 years old, who are going through a tough time.

Working as a member of the headspace team in the capacity of an independent contractor, the role offers the opportunity to provide bulk-billed, comprehensive psychiatric services to young people as part of a collaborative and holistic model of care, in an environment that encourages the development of ongoing and therapeutic relationships with clients and multidisciplinary case consultation.

 

The main responsibilities of this role will include but not be limited to:

•                 Undertake a comprehensive psychiatric assessment to arrive at an accurate diagnosis and formulation that considers the interaction between physical and mental illness and the unique needs and attributes of the individual.

•                 Develop a comprehensive evidence-based treatment plan and provide shorter or long term care depending on the needs of the individual.

•                 Ensure ongoing evaluation and review of treatment and care plans to ensure best outcomes for clients.

•                 Effective client management including creation and accurate up to date maintenance of individual client files and referrals.

•                 Participate in care planning, case review meetings and in planned case conferences with other health professionals involved in the client's care as appropriate.

•                 Provide written reports to the clients referring bodies with information regarding assessments undertaken, care provided, and recommendations on future management of the client's social and mental wellbeing.

•                 Participate in policy, strategy and advocacy activities as required by headspace.

•                 Keep abreast of best practice, industry research and latest industry news especially in regards to evidence based treatment results and therapies and undertake continuing professional development.

•                 Participate in organisation-wide, site based and team meetings, collaborative planning activities and other meetings or activities relevant to position.

•                 Adhere to all Wesley Mission Queensland and headspace protocols, policies and procedures.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required

Essential:

•                 Current AHPRA Registration as a Medical Practitioner with a speciality in Psychiatry.

•                 Personal Professional Indemnity Insurance.

•                 Current registration (or eligibility) with Medicare as an approved provider of mental health items under the Better Access to mental Health Care Medicare Benefits Schedule.

•                 Adherence to the RANZCP Code of Ethics, Australian Standards and Legislation.

•                 Demonstrated expertise in psychiatric assessment and client management.

•                 Thorough understanding of the impact of 'biological', 'psychological' and 'social' factors on mental health and the causation of mental illness

•                 Demonstrated experience working with a target age group of 12 to 25 years.

•                 Highly developed interpersonal, communications, time management and organisational skills.

•                 Proven ability to engage with, develop and maintain rapport and effective professional relationships with clients, colleagues and external stakeholders.

•                 Ability to adhere to privacy and confidentiality of clients and their stakeholders.

•                 High standard of computer literacy and data entry competency including MS office and demonstrated capacity learn new technologies including clinical software packages.

•                 Current Driver's Licence and willingness to drive, travel and work across headspace clinics in the course of work.

•                 Relevant probity checks required by legislation and WMQ policy.
