Allied Health Assistant - Hummingbird House

Hummingbird House, Queensland's only children's hospice, operates as a medically supported 'home away from home' for children affected by a life limiting condition, and their families. The stand-alone purpose built facility offers 8 guest in care suites, 5 family accommodation units, and a unique after-death suite.
Underpinned by the notion of creating a 'warm embrace' for children and their families, the multidisciplinary team provides 24/7hr scheduled and emergency specialist care short break stays; pain and symptom management; care at the end of life; and support programs for the whole family. As an Allied Health Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting with delivery of hydrotherapy and physiotherapy services for children with life-limiting conditions. You may also be required to assist with delivery of broader allied health services to clients of Wesley Mission Queensland (Chermside). This is a casual position.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Customer Service Delivery
- Provide support services to guests presenting with a wide range of palliative care needs, in collaboration with Allied Health Clinicians.
- Assisting in the preparation for hydrotherapy programs and supervision of participants under the direction of the Allied Health Clinician
- Deliver individual and group services that complement intervention provided by Allied Health Clinicians.
- Assist Allied Health Clinicians in sourcing and supplying guest focused interventions as required.
- Maintain currency of knowledge of hydrotherapy medical emergency and pool rescue procedures, including completion of Hydrotherapy Rescue training and/or basic first aid. (Dependent upon work location).
- Guest Centric Care
- Provide instruction, supervision and education to guests, family members and carers as required under the direction of an Allied Health Clinician.
- Identify opportunities to provide other Family Support services which may be of benefit to the guest and their family.
- Ensure that positive and professional relationships and rapport are developed and maintained with guests and their families.
- Administrative and Equipment Maintenance Responsibility
- Facilitate accurate and timely receipting and data entry into relevant systems.
- Assist maintaining the Hydrotherapy pool at HH as a clean and hygienic environment and oversee preventative maintenance of therapy related equipment.
- Monitor stock levels of clinical consumables and coordinate ordering of clinical consumables for the hub.
- Teamwork
- Contribute actively to a MDT environment to achieve the best possible outcome for guests.
- Adopt and utilise a dynamic, mobile approach to guest service delivery.
- Support team members, ensuring workload is distributed equally.
- Accept direction from Allied Health clinicians and additional responsibility as required to enhance service delivery for guests and their families.
- Governance
- Participation in Continuous Quality Improvement and Accreditation activities.
- Comply with all Workplace Health and Safety and infection control requirements.
