Position Summary

Family Support Worker

Hummingbird House is Queensland's only children's hospice and provides specialist paediatric palliative care to families across the state. The service offers short break respite stays, family support services, creative therapies, care at the end of life, after death care, and ongoing bereavement support for families caring for children with life limiting conditions.

The Family Support Work role at Hummingbird House will provide professional support to families using culturally appropriate and family-centred approaches to care, in both group settings and on an individual basis. This role will also provide holistic support and skills development targeted specifically to families who are living with a child with a life limiting condition.

In keeping with a holistic approach to Palliative Care, the scope of family support work takes place across the care trajectory - when a family is caring for a child with illness, around the time of death, and on into bereavement. Additionally, the provision of family support services may take place both at the hospice, family homes and other community locations.

While Paediatric Palliative care is a specialist area of healthcare, given the family and community focused nature of this role - we acknowledge that there are a broad range of employment backgrounds, skills, experiences and qualifications which could contribute to effective work in this position. We encourage applications from individuals without specialised qualifications in palliative care.

The successful applicant will however be someone who can show considerable initiative and responsibility working with various stakeholders, across varying operational matters, whilst being accountable for outcomes.

Applications must address the 'Qualifications, Knowledge and Requirement' for this role (contained within the attached position description) and are to be submitted online at www.wmq.org.au by 4pm of the closing date.
