Community Development Worker - Hummingbird House

Wesley Mission Queensland (WMQ) is a large and dynamic organisation with more than 65 locations throughout South East Queensland supporting 100,000 Queenslanders every year. As a not-for-profit organisation with over 100 years' experience in delivering aged care, Wesley Mission Queensland has a history steeped in hope, respect, compassion, empowerment, innovation, justice and integrity. To learn more about our organisation, please see www.wmq.org.au.

Hummingbird House is seeking an experienced Community Development Worker with proficiency in the development, delivery and evaluation of community-based initiatives aimed at working with children, young people, and families. This role will implement a community development approach to palliative care so as to identify, develop and more effectively integrate support networks for families receiving care for their child during illness, while dying, and into bereavement.

With direct support and guidance from an expert Community Development Practitioner, this position will be responsible for implementing the provision of community development approaches to care at Hummingbird House, as guided by an existing strategic work plan. This approach will facilitate capacity building in the broader community, specifically in the areas of connection and belonging to community, in the context of a Paediatric Palliative Care service with a state wide remit.

While Paediatric Palliative care is a specialist area of healthcare, given the community nature of this role - we acknowledge that there are also a broad range of skills, employment backgrounds, experiences and qualifications which could contribute to effective work in this position. We encourage applications from those without specialised qualifications in palliative care.

Applications must address the 'Qualifications, Knowledge and Requirement' for this role (contained within the attached position description) and are to be submitted online at www.wmq.org.au by 4pm of the closing date.
